There aren't many changes to report on the Owyhee River. While other tailwaters in the area are picking up and transitioning, this one's been in somewhat of a late summer holding pattern. We should see some changes as weather cools in the near future. That said, fishing's been decent. It's not incredible (like June and July), but decent.
Now that we’re on the front end of September think about switching things up. The ‘usual’ places have been hit pretty hard for the past few months and fish are starting to spread out. You’re going to start seeing fish in some pretty uncommon places. Look for heads in the little ‘shoe box’ sized nooks and crannies and don’t be afraid to prospect a bit.
River banks are pretty overgrown this time of year and they provide perfect cover for large fish. Look for heads tucked in really tight against the overgrowth. Rises will likely be subtle so pay attention and watch closely. Once you see the ‘dimple’ make your move.
