Moose Drool Skwala Tying Turorial
Skill Level: Intermediate
The Moose Drool Skwala is a 2009 Trout Lie creation that worked really well on the Owyhee, South Fork of the Boise, and the Bitterroot River in Montana. It's a low riding, simple pattern by design, and just seems to work in a variety of scenarios.
The dubbed chocolate hare’s mask body rides low in the water creating a vulnerable ‘trapped’ profile. The moose wing and the cow elk bullet head float the boat and the root beer crystal flash gives it a bit of jingle. To finish off, the black rubber legs provide the right amount of stability to keep it topside, and the black foam indicator make it easy to pick out from the naturals.
Overall, this is an easy pattern to tie and a tough one to beat out on the river.
