Trout Lie Principles
Welcome to the Trout Lie – the Treasure Valley’s most comprehensive fly fishing resource. Our primary focus is regional water, local patterns, and accurate, up-to-date information.
Every aspect of our website is dedicated to enhancing your fishing experience. As a frequent visitor of the Trout Lie, you’ll become familiar with a few principles we live by:
Information Is Only As Reliable As The Source
The World Wide Web is full of recycled expert opinion sites – the Trout Lie isn’t one of them. Our core belief is that fishing reports should be updated, accurate, and fully detailed. We’ll never post on topics that are unfamiliar or provide canned second-hand content.
As former fly shop owners and possessed fish-heads, we understand the value of honest, forthright information – and that’s all you’ll get from us.
Check The Ego At The Door
As Ben Franklin once said, "A man wrapped up in himself makes a very small bundle." Sometimes people forget where they’ve come from and find convenient excuses to be arrogant in the presence of others. The whole point of fishing is to share experiences and knowledge to help others up - not push them down.
At one time, we all looked like dorks and were clearly observable in having absolutely no coordination or fishing aptitude. That’s just the way it is…and to those who have forgotten, let he who is without wind knots cast the first tailing loop.
There's Never Enough To Learn
Becoming proficient in fly fishing is tough work and the only way to get there is to put the time in on the water. Unfortunately, in today’s “have to have it right now” society, Googling "how to catch trout and look cool in my overpriced waders” will only get you to the looking-the-part phase of the game.
Eventually, you’ll need to learn how to fish – which ultimately means you’ll need to wrestle with a bit of frustration and disappointment. It’s a right of passage and no one is exempt. Experience is based upon lessons in failure. The sooner you understand fishing is an acquired skill, the better off you’ll be. Nothing worth doing comes easily.
That said, we hope you’ll enjoy our site, the content we provide, and the stories we share. The information we post and tools we create aren’t designed to crank out quick “for dummies” solutions. If that’s what you’re looking for, then you’ve come to the wrong place my friend.
However, if you’re looking for a timeless resource to help get you on track, fish more consciously, and help you enjoy more of your time on the water, keep reading. We have a lot more in store for you!
