River Conditions
Things are winding down on Silver Creek. The Nature Conservancy is closed now so be sure not to get caught! There is some open water further on down stream towards Silver Creek West (open till the end of Februrary).
Like many other fisheries, prime opportunities are day to day and much of it is dependent on the weather. Midges are becoming more of player this time of year with winter taking hold.
Look for these guys to be your prime targets from now on through the close of the winter fishing season. Your best opportunities will be through the heat of the day when the Sun is on the water. Scope out the heads out on the flats and pay attention to the subtle, 'dimple' rise forms.
As 'technical' fisheries go, having the right tools are an absolute must. Long leaders and light tippet are essential to fall fishing success. Our recommendation is to go with TroutHunter's 10 - 14' signature leaders and matching tippet material -- probably the best quality/most durable gear we've used in recent years.
Have the right selection of flies (matching the hatch and the various emergence stages within the hatch). Tread lightly, wade slowly, and cast sparsely. Keep stealth and observation at the top of your priority list and you'll be in good shape!
