The Reason You're Here
Last updated on Mon, 01/10/2011 - 10:04am.
Tired of reading April’s fishing report in June? We hear you. If a fishing post isn’t updated often it’s not a report at all – it’s an archive. Did you come here for a history lesson? Didn’t think so.
So why are you here? If I had to guess it’s because you’re looking for a little more than what you’ve been getting – at least as far as fishing info goes.
Whether it's your need for accurate and updated local reports, comprehensive fly fishing and tying tutorials, or the best producing quality flies for local waters, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading. These are the reasons you're here.
You Need Accurate, Updated Fishing Reports
Our fishing reports aren’t the brief, garden-variety updates typically posted on other websites. We fish often and update regularly – in most cases at least once a week (or sooner in the peak of the season). Our business is fishing local waters and we’ve been doing it collectively for over 50 years!
You Understand Fishing Success Is Not Two Dimensional
Most fishing resources post a summary of what type of insects are hatching along with a generic list of patterns to use – the ‘two dimensional’ strategy. So what’s missing? The ‘WHEN’, the ‘HOW’ and the ‘WHY’. It doesn’t do any good to tell you what’s hatching and what flies to use if you don’t understand…
- WHEN hatches occur on the river throughout the day. Timing is everything and confident anglers don’t rely on luck – they know when to be in the right spot at the right time.
- HOW fish react to the various stages of a particular hatch – basically understanding rise forms that indicate fish are on nymphs, emergers, adults, and spinners. Conditions can change rapidly during a hatch. Recognizing those changes will give you an advantage most people can't identify.
- WHY it’s important to fish patterns that closely imitate those various hatch stages. Quality fly patterns which are proportionate, durable, and tied correctly are proven to produce more consistent results.
Other sites leave you to decipher ‘stick figure’ reports. The Trout Lie will help you understand the three dimensional reality of fly fishing. We will provide you the necessary tools to clearly recognize fishing opportunities AND take full advantage.
You Understand Quality Flies Are Paramount To Success
The typical angler will drop over $800 on rods, reels, lines, waders, boots, tools and accessories (and this is the low-end estimate). All the while, none of these ‘things’ are as important to fishing as proportionate, durable, and practical fly patterns.
Unfortunately this is the crucial part of the equation that most ignore. Plainly, some people opt to skimp on the single most important aspect of fly fishing (the flies)!
Cheap, generic patterns may fool the odd fish here and there, but success is more about the advantage of consistency and quality, and more times than not your best opportunities will result from superior, tried and true fly patterns, tied correctly and consistently by people who fish locally.
