Favorite Places
In no particular order...
Steelhead Junkies
When it comes to steelhead fishing/tying sites, you can tell one of two things right away -- they're completely full of it OR they know what they're talking about. These guys are the real deal and they've got some incredible steelhead patterns, materials, info, etc...
Buster Wants to Fish
The fly fishing industry is turning into an interesting place. If you're tired of the 'corporate sponsored' dude revolution and the existential wisdom of the arrogant and preened, check out the link. These guys have an opinion...and you're going to hear it. Good stuff and a great reminder that between all the frabba-jabba, it's just fishing!
Zerrtech
This is the company that made new Trout Lie website possible. Jeremy Zerr is an incredible resource, extremely dependable, and one of the sharpest Drupal developers I've met. Unfortunately, I don't have enough space to rave but Jeremy's work ethic is incredible and is always on top of things. He anticipates issues, plans accordingly, and executes to produce the best possible results. If you have any web related projects, I couldn't give a high enough rating.
John Sparger - Green River Guide
Fishing Utah's Green River this year? You'll want to hook up with our friend John Sparger -- he's got a nice little operation going on down in Dutch John, Utah and he'll take care of you properly.
Animated Fishing Knots
This is a really cool step-by-step visual resource for tying a good number of common fishing knots. It doesn't get much easier than this. They have knot tying info for other activities as well.
Big Sky Brewing Company
If great beer is a fishing staple, I would highly recommend picking up a sixer of their Moose Drool or Trout Slayer. We've been fans for a better part of a decade.
Project Healing Waters
There's no better cause than supporting those who have served us proudly. Project Healing Waters is an organization that provides fishing information and resources to wounded veterans. These guys deserve all of our respect and appreciation, and as a vet I'm happy to support them in any way possible.
Steve Zerza's Boise River Blog
Just the right mix of entertainment, info and pics. Check out Steve's blog. The guy's put in an enormous amount of time working to help preserve and regulate the Boise River through town. Help get the word out!
Troutnut.com
This is a really great website for aquatic insect identification among other things. We hit this site quite a bit. The group that runs it has done a fantastic job of photographing and cataloging just about every trout hourdorve known to man.
Dreams on the Fly
Fishing the Owyhee and Grande Ronde is quite an experence when you book your guided trip through Dreams on the Fly. Dave and Rhonda are great people and have the experience and expertise to make your next trip a memorable one. They're Insured, Licensed & Permitted by BLM as well as other state entities. All of their guides hold Red Cross CPR & First Aid Certifications -- which comes in handy when you have a heart attack over the size of the fish in the Owyhee and their ability to get you into them.
The Trout Underground
For those who enjoy an honest approach, here's a refreshing perspective from a guy who "gets it". The Trout Underground is a great place to pull down a good slice of reality and get back to what fishing is all about (fun). If you're into reading a heavy degree of candor and honest commentary, I would highly recommend this blog. The guy speaks the truth and is pretty entertaining in the process.
Idaho Rivers United
These guys do great conservation work for Idaho rivers. If you love a river and value wild salmon and steelhead, you'll definitely want to check out their site and get on their email list. They're also a leading advocate for protecting the Boise River watershed.
The Last Resort - Outfitters & Guides
Fly or drift Fishing is the venue here. They also specialize in whitewater rafting excursions on Idaho's Salmon river. They're located between riggins and McCall Idaho - Stop in and see our friend Jim Blair.
Goodwood BBQ
These guys definitely get plenty of my business throughout the summer. Their BBQ is authentic and made from scratch. Best of all, it's reasonably priced and you can call in orders to go. It's a quick stop on the way to the South Fork or the Owyhee. They have the best pulled pork, brisket, and smoked turkey in the valley.
