TroutHunter's new Finesse Lleaders translate well to this side of the state. These are great for smaller dries (BWOs, PMDs, Caddis) on technical streams like the South Fork of the Boise, Silver...
About Silver Creek

Often referenced as the pinnacle of Idaho fly fishing, Silver Creek offers technical dry fly opportunities throughout most of the year. The creek meanders through several miles of private and public land offering a healthy population of respectable browns and bows with PhDs in entomology.
Long leaders, light tippets, observation, fish hunting, and precision casting are pretty much the standard for this piece of gin clear water. There’s not much room for “on the job training” so you had better be prepared for some frustration if your skills are off the mark.
With a consistent amount of angling pressure and an abundance of food, these fish are among the most selective anywhere. Hatches are prolific on this stretch of water, so having a well stocked fly box is an absolute must – matching the hatch is extremely essentialfor success.
Throughout the summer, expect things to kick off with the long awaited Brown Drake hatch in early June followed by consistent Baetis, Callibaetis, and PMDs on through mid-September. You’ll also want to take a decent selection of terrestrials. The creek is nestled in fertile plains and full of flying ants, hoppers, and beetles.
Silver Creek is the benchmark of fly fishing and a true test which many anglers use as a measure of experience and proficiency. If you’re consistently fooling fish here, then you’ve done your homework.
Through the frustration, there are many lessons to be learned. This isn’t necessarily a place to get your feet wet in the sport, but putting time in on Silver Creek will definitely improve your general understanding of fish behavior and hatch activity.
