CDC Rusty Spinner Tutorial

Fishing the Owyhee River lateley? If you’ve been out on the river, then you’re probably taking notice of fish up dimpling towards the end of the day. What are they on? Scraps. This is the time of day when you’ll want to be fishing rusty spinners. We’ve got just the pattern for you.

The CDC Rusty Spinner is one of our “go to” patterns on the Owyhee (and several other rivers for that matter). To tie, you’ll need the following:

  • Hook: TMC 100 (100BL) or Daiichi 1180 (1190), size 14 to 24
  • Thread: Rusty or Brown 8/0
  • Tail: Four Micro Fibers (fibettes)
  • Abdomen: Rusty Goose Biot
  • Thorax: Rusty 0r Mahogany Fine Natural Dubbing
  • Wing Casing: Mylar Tinsel
  • Wing: White or Light Dun CDC
